+ Fueling their futures
CITGO Petroleum and Marketer Mid-State Energy named Sarasota Military Academy one of 12 winners of its Fueling Good program, which rewards local organizations that give back to their community. Sarasota Military won $5,000 worth of CITGO gift cards, which will provide transportation to events such as music events and academic competitions and the Junior Olympics.

+ Life Skills
Seventh- through 12th-graders at NewGate School recently participated in Internship Week. Students worked at local businesses and nonprofits such as the Cat Depot, Audrey’s Jamaican Cuisine, Ashton Animal Clinic and many others. NewGate School requires all its students in the Secondary Program to complete a one-week internship each year. This allows students to learn about businesses and various career paths while equipping them with practical life skills.

+ iPad intuition
Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School will be implementing a pilot 1:1 iPad program starting in the fall. Incoming ninth-graders will be equipped with an iPad for daily classroom use, to help students navigate in an advanced technological world. Classrooms will also be converting from SMART boards to Apple TVs. The school’s goal is to enhance the learning experience, improve technological literacy and integrate technology into the curriculum.
