BREAKING: Gas line struck on Ocean Boulevard

As workers Wednesday, Nov. 16, began construction of the new wrought-iron fence at the intersection of Treasure Boat Way and Ocean Boulevard, they struck a gas line, a county staff member informed representatives of Siesta organizations.

Grandpas, fathers, mothers and children were recognized for their service as veterans at Out-Of-Door Academy on Friday, Nov. 11. The children sang patriotic songs and student council members honored each veteran individually.

Public comments sought on review of schools

A company undertaking a study of the efficiency of the Sarasota County School District will hold a community open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the Laurel Nokomis School cafeteria to take public comment on the process.

Benny Kimsey's Bluegrass Picnic brought hundreds of people out to Turtle Beach's pavilion Saturday afternoon. Kimsey also invited the local chapter of the Red Cross to come out and accept donations from the crowd.
