Author Iris Krasnow was the featured speaker at the Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Federation Women’s Day held Dec. 7, at the Beatrice Friedman Theater, on the federation campus.
Krasnow has written several books, and her latest is “I Am My Mother’s Daughter,” in which she draws on her experiences with her 84-year-old mother, a Holocaust survivor. Her luncheon topic was “A Woman’s Journey … Mothers, Daughters, Girlfriends, Lovers and Female Angst.”
Helen Glaser and Bunny Skirboll were Nashim L’Tova co-chairwomen and Women’s Day co-chairwomen were Alice Cotman and Sandra Hanan. Following the luncheon, Krasnow signed copies of her books.

Children from all over Sarasota County participated in the 2013 Sarasota Kiwanis Spelling Bee Program Friday, May 17 at the Lee Wetherington Boys and Girls Club. More than 100 third and fourth graders in bright yellow t – shirts competed to show off their skills and win one of three cash prizes. Booker High School and Sarasota High School Key Club sold pizza for $1 a slice and parents quizzed children in preparation for the spelling bee. -
