On Veterans Day, a memorial to the late Capt. Ralph Styles was held at the Siesta Key gazebo. Styles, a decorated Navy veteran, was known for his nightly ceremony of lowering the American flag at sunset at his Siesta Key home, where neighbors and friends frequently gathered for the ceremony.

Sarasota Middle School eighth graders don vintage-style bustle dresses and traditional military uniforms for the 13th annual Civil War Camp Day. The students reenacted for visitors and younger students what life was like during the Civil War period. -

Covered in writing, a beat-up mailbox and quite possibly part of a bird's nest, this colorful scooter was spotted today on Main Street. It drew a crowd of passers-by, who all paused to snap a photograph.
