Downtown techno music club-seekers must bid adieu to glitter and glow sticks, because club/restaurant hotspot Esca closed its doors last month.

Opening Thursday, Nov. 12 in its place at 1888 Main St. will be Urban Reef, which will serve Floribbean cuisine with an urban twist and feature nightly live entertainment.

Once a staple among sweaty club-goers with an appetite for techno beats, lobster ravioli and veal, Esca was one of several stops this summer on the Vinyl Music Fest circuit.

There is no word yet if Urban Reef owners Larry and Kathy Heinzerling and Eric and Andrea Zito will re-hire former Esca house DJ Andrew Concha, aka DJ Shambala.

“We’re homegrown people trying to make a mark on Sarasota,” said Eric Zito. “Our focus is the restaurant, not necessarily high-energy techno music.”
