Now one of the largest therapeutic riding centers in the country, InStride Equine Assisted Therapy hosted the grand opening of its expanded facility Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Nokomis.
The 76-acre site includes a new 28-stall barn with administrative-and-therapy offices, a 110-foot-by-200-foot covered riding arena, a family resource center and a caretaker’s house.
A combination of 200 volunteers, physical and occupational therapists and staff provide care for more than 250 riders, 14 horses and the land.

Mote Marine Laboratory hosted a morning of learning for Forty Carrot families Tuesday, July 22. The field trip was part of Mote’s Partners In Play series that invited families to meet Moonshine, Hugh and Buffet— Mote’s resident manatees and dolphin. After exploring the facilities, families cooled off inside where they met jellyfish, clownfish and cuttlefish.
Sheriff’s Office outsources crossing guard services
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has contracted with a Ft. Lauderdale-based firm to take over its crossing guard duties for local schools.
