At the 11th annual Most Improved Student Award luncheon Monday, April 20, at Michael’s on East, 60 high school students were recognized for overcoming obstacles and improving their lives. Each senior was presented with a $1,000 cash award for their accomplishments, but the awards didn’t end there.
At the end of the program, one senior from each high school: Tiffany White, Venice High School, Josue Delgado, Sarasota High School, Alexander Holbert, Riverview High School, and Rosalie Pereira, Booker High School, were surprised with a $5,000 award each for being the “most improved” students.
“The program is for students whose efforts are not usually recognized, said Lori White, superintendent of Sarasota County schools. “You don’t see this kind of support … for me, it’s a very rewarding event.”
