As part of Temple Beth Sholom Goldie Feldman Academy’s annual Pi Day celebration, eighth-grade student Sierra Van Such recited pi to 2,109 digits from memory. Last year, Van Such recited pi to 1,266 digits, and she has been the top-ranked sixth-, seventh- and now eighth-grade student in the country.
Temple Beth Sholom’s Goldie Feldman Academy math teacher Sandy Kahl hosts an event every year on March 14 to celebrate mathematics. Students write math-themed poems called “pi-kus,” create dances and songs about pi and eat treats in the shape of the mathematical symbol.
