+ Keep Sarasota County Beautiful dude talks trash
Keep Sarasota County Beautiful recently awarded five local elementary schools with its signature trash-collection receptacle, the “Talking Trash Dude.” Three of the schools received $5,000 in education grants.
The Sarasota County Commission hosted a ceremonial check presentation Tuesday, March 16, during its regular meeting for the selected schools’ parents, teachers, students and administrators. Students were also asked to create drawings of the Trash Dude and encouraged to discuss why they want to promote a cleaner environment.
KSCB awarded points based on how each school promoted the KSCB mission, the involvement of students, parents and teachers, the creation of feasible activities likely to succeed and the generation of positive publicity.
Bay Haven School of Basics Plus placed first in the contest and was awarded a $2,500 grant; Phillippi Shores Elementary took second place and received $1,500; and Atwater Elementary placed third and received $1,000.
