I received a mailing from AARP urging me to call Congressman Vern Buchanan, R-Longboat Key, to ask him to support the health care bill. Why is the AARP behind this bill? Is there self interest for it to make money off of the bill?  

You bet there is, and it’s called “quid pro quo,” which means “you do something for me, and I do something for you.” With the end of Medicare Advantage and by supporting government health care, the AARP could gain millions of seniors seeking supplemental health insurance. How many seniors are aware of the pending $500 billion in cuts to Medicare, which will adversely affect the quality of their care if this bill passes?

I think everyone should call the AARP to tell it that it needs to go back to representing the interest of all seniors rather than its own pocketbook and to do everything possible to defeat this bad bill.  

Buchanan represents the largest number of seniors in any district in the country. He has hosted many Town Hall forums and asked for input from those he represents. He got the message loud and clear that the vast majority of his constituents do not want this massive health care bill. I think we should call Congressman Buchanan to thank him for his “no” vote.
