  • Are you kidding? Call Wal-mart? I'm sure you're aware of the expansion of the Wal-mart on University. It wouldn't make sense to build one in this area now. For as long as I live I won't understand why this City and residents in the community ( along with our district representative) voted to target Wal-mart when what they were offering was far more than any entity had offered in this area. What a difference it would have made at this crucial time. Wal-mart is paying their associates $11 + dollars an hour now. The Marian Anderson Brownfield fiasco was only to get rid of Wal-mart and any other employer of 50 or more employees. There aren't any suitors for that site...we think that's what the City wanted. And as long as Article 11 is in the City Charter, there will never be anyone to come forward to clean up that mess. Wal-mart had the deep pockets and was more than willing to get it done. The sad thing is that Newtown missed a very viable tax base. As that peitition was going around by WARN I refused to sign it and those taking the petition around was paid $2 for each signature. That's what I call "selling out your community". When are we going to wake up and don't believe everything we hear??? So, bottomline, who benefited from WARN coming in here?? Not one of the local businesses would have been adversely affected if Wal-mart had come in. Whose needs are we addressing anyway?
