- what the Mayor fails to recognize is that other city residents have feelings on this as well. I am a City resident and 29 year Police Officer. I am embarrassed that the city I swore an oath to protect looks at my work as a burden on the budget. I am ashamed that my city commission put together a panel of citizens with an agenda to discredit, tear apart and degrade my fellow officers for the work we have done. I am devistated that my pension, health benefits and job security are being targeted as a source of extra revenue. And I am angry that I my city has a Mayor who not only despises his cities police department but takes pride in taking steps to cut away at all the officers have done , earned and accomplished which have made Sarasota a place he wants to live and raise a family.
