- I would rather have openly known Republicans like Joe Gruters, Jesse Biter and Christian Ziegler supporting my candidate, Richard Dorfman. Waechter, Robinson and Barbetta also support Richard and that's OK, too. Susan Chapman is the Elitist Candidate. Vote for real growth. Vote for Dorfman.
- Dorfman understands that a vibrant Sarasota with greater economic opportunity and lower taxes requires a rejection of the false choice between Development and Neighborhoods espoused by one of the other candidates in the runoff election, Susan Chapman. He is an advocate of encouraging new people, activities and businesses to come to Sarasota, and realizes that the choice for meeting $30 million in unfunded pension plans is either to double taxes on every city resident, or broaden the tax base by allowing for greater density and more business development. He knows that higher taxes lead to a lower standard of living, so his choice is to increase the vitality and viability of Sarasota through an influx of new residents and businesses. It's clear to me that the City Commission best suited for solving Sarasota's fiscal shortcomings and setting the stage for future growth and economic prosperity will include both Richard Dorfman and Suzanne Atwell.

Can you dig it?
Third- and fourth-grade students of Temple Beth Sholom had a chance to brush up on their paleontology skills last week while digging for faux dinosaur bones.
Sound of scholars
Local students Caleb Upton and Matthew Vaadi received some help for their upcoming studies to the tune of $1,000 each from the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys. The scholarships were made possible through the Sheridan E. Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund. Both students plan to use the funds toward a career in music.
