The New York Times gave Sarasota some international — and intelligent — exposure in an "In Transit" blog post Monday, Oct. 28.
The Times' "Intelligent Guide to Travel" featured the 2013 Sarasota Chalk Festival, which runs from Nov. 13, through Nov. 18, in its international calendar guide to coming events. The iconic Sarasota arts event shares the Oct. 28 post with Arts Istanbul, which is held in Turkey.
The 2013 Sarasota Chalk Festival will be shorter than the previous year's event, but artists will have a larger asphalt canvas along Pineapple Avenue.

Heron East Assisted Living Facility held its second annual “Senior Prom” last month.
Sarasota nonprofits the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota County and Big Brothers Big Sisters are hosting donation drives. The Boys and Girls Club’s drive runs from July 21 through Aug. 2 and is accepting clothing, shoes, books and small household items for Goodwill Manasota.
