A man took a cue from National Lampoon's Vacation yesterday, and ended up in Sarasota County jail.
A white male in his 30s attempted to rob another man in the parking lot of the Publix on Fruitville Road with a pellet gun, and was arrested after the victim took his weapon Thursday, Sept. 12, according to a Sheriff's Office flash report.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, asked the victim for change for a $10 bill, then ordered him into his truck at gunpoint. The victim snatched the gun and fell out of the suspects truck, which blew a tire while the suspect fled. A deputy, unaware of the previous crime, pulled over the truck and made the arrest.

Can you dig it?
Third- and fourth-grade students of Temple Beth Sholom had a chance to brush up on their paleontology skills last week while digging for faux dinosaur bones.
Sound of scholars
Local students Caleb Upton and Matthew Vaadi received some help for their upcoming studies to the tune of $1,000 each from the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys. The scholarships were made possible through the Sheridan E. Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund. Both students plan to use the funds toward a career in music.
