Sarasota Police detectives believe a 35-year-old woman shot her child and then turned the weapon on herself before 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, in the 4000 block of Old Bradenton Road.
At roughly 9:45 a.m., the father of Josephine Boice, a 17-month-old girl, returned from a scooter ride and heard gunshots, which detectives believe came from a gun the girl's mother, Sarah Harnish, used in an apparent murder-suicide. The 911 call came in from 4015 Old Bradenton Road, according to a Police Department news release.
