Because the Southgate post office is one of 677 locations the U.S. Postal Service is considering closing, District 13 Rep. Vern Buchanan, R- Longboat Key, will meet with postal service officials Aug. 21 to try to save that branch.
The congressman has received several letters from constituents requesting he intervene.
Buchanan’s meeting is at 10:30 a.m. at the post office, at 2055 Siesta Drive. He will then hold a press conference at 11 a.m. to discuss the results of his meeting.
The Southgate post office employs 24 people. It is the only Sarasota post office at risk of closure.
