The long holiday weekend means fewer government services available for use, including libraries and bus service.
City Hall will be closed Monday, July 5. However, trash and recycling collection will remain on its normal schedule. The City Commission meeting, which is usually held on a Monday, will occur at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 6 instead.
All Sarasota County offices, including libraries and recreation centers, will be closed Sunday, July 4 and Monday, July 5.
SCAT bus service will not operate on July 4, with the exception of the Longboat Key Trolley. It will be back in operation on July 5.
County garbage, yard waste and recycling collections will remain on their regular schedule.
The Arlington Park pool and Lido Beach pool will both be open this weekend.

Can you dig it?
Third- and fourth-grade students of Temple Beth Sholom had a chance to brush up on their paleontology skills last week while digging for faux dinosaur bones.
Sound of scholars
Local students Caleb Upton and Matthew Vaadi received some help for their upcoming studies to the tune of $1,000 each from the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys. The scholarships were made possible through the Sheridan E. Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund. Both students plan to use the funds toward a career in music.
