The SCAT bus system will unveil four new hybrid buses today.
The new buses are smaller than the 10 hybrid buses SCAT purchased about three years ago.
The smaller buses cost $517,000 each, which is $200,000 more than a standard diesel bus, but SCAT expects the hybrids to save $21,000 per year, per bus, in fuel costs.
The hybrids are part of the county’s 2030 Challenge initiative, which looks to reduce fossil fuel use.
