The Florida School Boards Association elected Sarasota County School Board member Caroline Zucker as its vice president June 13, during its annual meeting, in Tampa. The general membership of the FSBA elected Zucker for a one-year term that will end in mid-June 2014.
The FSBA is a nonprofit that represents 67 countywide school boards in the state. It aims to increase student achievement through effective school board leadership and advocacy for public education.
“I want all children to have the educational advantages that will help them live up to their full potential,” Zucker said. “This position will allow me to participate in the decisions that will further that goal throughout Florida’s public school districts.”
Zucker chairs the FSBA Bylaws and Procedures Committee and serves on the Advocacy Subcommittee of the Legislative Committee, the Long Range Planning Committee, the Charter Schools Committee and the Task Force on Assessment and Accountability. She was a Sarasota County School Board member from 1992 to 2000 and again from 2006 to 2013.
Gov. Rick Scott appointed Zucker to the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention State Advisory Group. The group advises the state about compliance, requirements and funding related to the federal Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention Act.
Zucker was also one of the founders of the Sarasota County Juvenile Justice Council in the early-1990s and has served on the council at various times. The council was a forerunner of the Juvenile Justice Board.
