1981 — JUNE 18. Mark Cotney, of the Tampa Bay Bucs, autographs a football for The Out-of-Door Academy students Bill Lineweaver, Kay Lineweaver, Robbie Malkin and Jonnie Malkin. The Lineweavers and Malkins had bid on a party, featuring Mark Cotney, at The Out-of-Door Academy Auction in November 1980.

1976 — JUNE 17. Don Chew, owner of the Inn Between, threw a hot-dog fiesta for 70-plus baseball players and an assortment of coaches, umpires ad scorekeepers. Siesta Key’s Baseball League had just ended its third season, and the new league champions, United First Federal, were on-hand to be toasted and roasted. The dinner party opened on a briefly somber note, as the Rev. John Bressler spoke a few words about umpire Wally Hamilton, who died just before the season’s end. Hamilton helped pioneer the league and was simply known as “ump” to the children. He was tall, imposing, and capable of being stern but, everybody loved him.

1997 — JUNE 19. According to a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Department report, two youths were walking on the 400 block of Beach Road shortly after 10:30 p.m., when two cars approached them at a high rate of speed. The unidentifiable males in the cars allegedly threw eggs from the open window of the vehicle, striking the victims about three times. The two victims stopped a deputy on patrol and told him about the incident. The following day, five youths were charged with battery after a similar incident occurred in the city.
