A student from Osprey has won the 2009 High School Congressional Arts Competition.

Amberose Marie Courville, a Venice High School student, took first place for “Tyson,” an acrylic painting of a rooster.

The Congressional Arts Competition is an annual event that showcases the talent in each congressional district across the country.

Courville’s artwork will hang in the corridor between the U.S. Capitol and the Cannon House Office Building.

As part of her prize, she will receive roundtrip airfare to Washington, D.C. for a reception next month, as well as the opportunity for a $5,000 college scholarship.

Third runner up in the competition was Sarasota High School student Josh Parenti.
