Three new city commissioners, sworn in just minutes earlier, chose the two sitting commissioners to lead the city.
Commissioner Suzanne Atwell was appointed mayor, and Commissioner Terry Turner was chosen as vice mayor after new Commissioner Shannon Snyder nominated both.
“I will do my best to represent all of you,” said Atwell, as she addressed the city.
Turner acknowledged the work the city staff is performing in the face of severe budget restrictions.
“I encourage you as citizens … to be generous with praise, when one of our employees gives you better than expected service,” he said.
Snyder and Commissioners Paul Caragiulo and Willie Shaw replaced outgoing Mayor Kelly Kirschner, Vice Mayor Fredd Atkins and Commissioner Dick Clapp.
“It’s been a good four years, but it’s time to move on,” Clapp said.
