Sarasota County has rescheduled the closure of the Blackburn Point Bridge in Osprey.
It will close May 26 for about a month, so work crews can replace most of the mechanics on the 83-year-old swing bridge.
Repairs were supposed to begin this week, but nearby residents asked to delay the project until later this month, when traffic is expected to be lighter.
The bridge, which is on Blackburn Point Road, is the northern access point to Casey Key. All vehicles will be re-routed to Albee Road. Boats will still be able to travel under the bridge.
The repairs are expected to cost $483,000 and will not alter the appearance of the bridge.
