+ Sarasota Observer reader wins ‘mother’ of all contests
The votes are in — more than 15,000 total — and the winners of the YourObserver.com Mother-Daughter Lookalike contest have been named.
Readers in all three of our coverage areas — Longboat Key, Sarasota and East County — uploaded their favorite lookalike photos to our Web site, and voting took place last week.
For Sarasota, Fabiola Beckmann submitted the winning photo of herself and her mother, Ana Molinari. The two have made Sarasota their home for 32 years and work together at Ana Molinari Salon and Spa.
For winning, Beckmann and Molinari will receive a gift certificate to brunch on Mother’s Day, May 9, at Michael’s On East.

Can you dig it?
Third- and fourth-grade students of Temple Beth Sholom had a chance to brush up on their paleontology skills last week while digging for faux dinosaur bones.
Sound of scholars
Local students Caleb Upton and Matthew Vaadi received some help for their upcoming studies to the tune of $1,000 each from the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys. The scholarships were made possible through the Sheridan E. Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund. Both students plan to use the funds toward a career in music.
