New College of Florida celebrated its 50th anniversary, along with the official ribbon cutting of the Public Archaeology Lab Friday, Oct. 22. The anniversary ceremony was held on Founders' Circle and included speeches from several dignitaries.

Residents of the Sarasota Bay Club are getting into a new exercise class: chair dancing. The class is taught by Wendy Canning and allows the participants to enjoy doing dance moves to 1940's music without actually leaving their seat.

Out-of-Door Academy first-graders performed an experiment with underwater volcanoes today in Lisa Cheney’s marine science room. As the students poured cups of vinegar into a volcano made out of Play-Doh, it united with the baking soda, causing the mixture to foam at the top and erupt over the sides like lava. Following the experiment, The Observer asked the students for the scoop on underwater volcanoes.

Sanborn Studios filmed the final action scene of its new action TV series "Miami 24/7" Sunday on the John Ringling Bridge. Some drivers sat in traffic for up to 30 minutes during an exciting stunt when a car was driven off the bridge.
