Brookside Middle School students and the City of Sarasota celebrated Arbor Day Friday, May 2. Local organizations, such as Mote Marine Laboratory, visited the school to help educate students on the importance of nature. After the morning activities, students gathered outside where Mayor Shannon Snyder presented a proclamation declaring May 2 Arbor Day in the City of Sarasota. The celebration also included the planting of three trees, donated by Biological Tree Services, in honor of the school’s three grades. “Just like you, these trees will grow,” said Public Works Department General Manager Todd Kucharski.

A panel including County Administrator Tom Harmer, City Manager Tom Barwin, Longboat Key Town Manager Dave Bullock and Visit Sarasota County President Virginia Haley discussed the pride points of the Sarasota community. After the panel discussion, members were able to ask questions.
