+ Mooney runners earn regional berths
Cardinal Mooney High junior Grace CasaGrande set a new personal record, finishing third in 19:39.44 to lead the Lady Cougars to a sixth-place finish at the Class 1A-District 10 Cross-Country Meet Nov. 2, at Taylor Park in Largo.
CasaGrande will advance to the Class 1A-Region 3 Meet Nov. 10, in Melbourne.
ODA’s Carling Landeche finished sixth in 21:03.25 to pace the Lady Thunder, who finished fifth overall. Cardinal Mooney sophomore Cal Davidson Turner finished seventh to lead the Cougars to a sixth-place finish.
Davidson Turner will advance to the regional meet Nov. 10.
In the JV division, Cardinal Mooney freshman Ryan Lee Romero finished first followed by sophomore Tyler Shanahan.
+ Lady Thunder fall in regional quarterfinal
The Out-of-Door Academy volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 26-24, 25-14, 25-11 loss to Clearwater Central Catholic in a Class 3A-Region 3 quarterfinal Oct. 31.
Lauren Maxey paced the Lady Thunder (12-10) with seven kills, three aces and 16 digs.
+ Sarasota Crew wins top honors
The Sarasota Crew team took home several first-place finishes at the 13th annual Halloween Regatta Oct. 27, in Tampa.
More than 300 competitors, representing 30 teams, participated in the regatta.

+ ODA wins Headmaster Cup
The Out-of-Door Academy football team defeated St. Stephen’s 42-20 Nov. 2, to win the Headmaster Cup.
Quarterback Evan Wilson threw for more than 330 yards and five touchdowns and J.T. Fischer ran for nearly 140 yards and a touchdown. Wilson has now passed for more than 50 touchdowns and 6,000 yards in his career.
The Thunder will close out their season Nov. 9 versus Cardinal Mooney.
+ Cougars senior wins pair of regional titles
Cardinal Mooney High senior Matt O’Donnell won the 100-yard backstroke and the 500 freestyle during the Class 1A-Region 3 Swimming & Diving Championship Meet Nov. 3.
O’Donnell will now advance to the Class 1A Swimming & Diving Championships Nov. 10, at the Central Florida YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando.
Booker High junior Grace DiMeo also will advance to the state meet after winning the 100 butterfly. She also finished second in the 200 freestyle.
+ Lady Rams win regional championship
The Riverview High girls swim team won the Class 3A-Region 2 Swimming & Diving Championship Meet Nov. 3.
The Lady Rams 200 freestyle relay (Taylor Katz, Niamh O’Grady, Laura Toth and Hannah James) and 400 freestyle relay (Katz, Spence Atkins, Lexy Raybon and James) posted victories for Riverview and qualified for the Class 3A Swimming & Diving Championships Nov. 9, at the Central Florida YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando.
+ Observer crowns first Ultimate Sports Fans
The Ultimate Sports Fan contest winners for September are Adam, Tanya and Levi Waxler. The Waxlers submitted a photo of themselves cheering on the Rays in their victory over the Texas Rangers Sept. 9, in Tampa.
A new Ultimate Sports Fan will be crowned each month through May, and each winner will receive a gourmet tailgate package from Morton’s Gourmet Market. The submission period for the November contest runs until Nov. 22, and voting will take place from Nov. 22 to Nov. 26. To submit your photo or vote for the next winner, visit YourObserver.com.
