ODA Senior quarterback Evan Wilson has been playing football since he was in the third grade. He says his interest in the game was sparked at a young age due to his family’s shared love for the sport. Coach Brett Timmons describes Wilson as having a great knowledge of the game and as a modest even-keeled player.
What do you remember about your first high school game?
I was the smallest guy out there. I was definitely nervous. I think I threw two picks and had a fumble.
What has been the biggest thing you’ve learned since then?
I’ve always had an arm, but I’ve learned to be smarter with it. I’ve learned to have some finesse.
Tell me about a time that a game has left you with a lasting lesson.
In my sophomore year, we lost in the first round of the playoffs. We just couldn’t get the offense going. I took a lot of responsibility for that. That taught me to be smarter about the game and watch the films and things like that.
What’s the best football-related advice you’ve ever received?
I try to keep it in my mind to just do your job. Don’t try to be a superhero, just go out and do what you’re supposed to do.
What has been your most memorable moment as a player?
Definitely my first time starting as a sophomore against Bradenton Christian. It was a big district game, and there was a lot of pressure, but winning and going to the playoffs was such a great feeling.
What is your strongest point as a player?
I think that my love for the game is constantly fueling me to strive to get better.
What is your favorite aspect of the game?
I like the mental aspect. I try to just go in knowing I have to do my job and just do it. There’s a lot of pressure on you, as the quarterback, so you have to have the right mentality.
