Parents can sign their children up for a variety of fall sports from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, at Encore Motorcars, 6000 S. Tamiami Trail.
Also at the event, children participate in arts and crafts and enjoy a bouncy house, dunking booth, mobile 20-passenger train, snacks and refreshments. Children will also get the opportunity to finger paint a real car.
Encore Motorcars will be accepting donations for the Suncoast Sports Club Scholarship Program. The scholarships go to low-income families who would not be able to afford fall sports otherwise.
According to Encore Motorcars owner George Manooshian, they have donated their venue because they say they are passionate about giving children opportunities.
“We have seen kids that would not other wise have had an opportunity to be out there. These sports are a great way for kids to be social and to learn,“ says Manooshian.
Parents can sign their children up for soccer, flag football, tackle football, basketball, lacrosse, T-ball, golf and tennis. This event is free and open to the public.

Can you dig it?
Third- and fourth-grade students of Temple Beth Sholom had a chance to brush up on their paleontology skills last week while digging for faux dinosaur bones.
Sound of scholars
Local students Caleb Upton and Matthew Vaadi received some help for their upcoming studies to the tune of $1,000 each from the Sarasota Chorus of the Keys. The scholarships were made possible through the Sheridan E. Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund. Both students plan to use the funds toward a career in music.
