Until noon today, Sarasota County Parks and Recreation will close Beach Access 12 on Siesta Key. The access path near the intersection of Old Stickney Point and Midnight Pass roads will be closed while Erickson Consulting Engineers performs geotechnical core borings.
The borings are neccessary to improve area drainage and to research the feasibility of widening the access for seaweed removal.
“When we get a heavy rain, water floods the area and takes a few days to drain,” said George Tatge, Sarasota County Parks and Recreation manger.
The county also hopes to widen the access for trucks so that the seaweed can easily be removed from the beach.
