It doesn’t matter whether you dive, swim, wade or walk. The Suncoast Reef and Lido Beach cleanups need volunteers to rake these sites of debris Saturday, July 11.
The SunCoast Reef Cleanup takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 11 at Mote’s Chickee Hut, 1600 Ken Thompson Parkway. Divers will spend a day cleaning local artificial reefs while benefiting Motes Center for Coral Research. A shore dive will be organized for those who could not get a reservation on the charter boat, which is now full. A dinner, awards ceremony and entertainment will follow at 5 p.m. at the Chickee Hut.
For information, go to www.suncoastreefcleanip.com.
The first Lido Beach Cleanup, hosted by Shore will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Lido Beach lifeguards will give a paddleboard demonstration. Participants or individuals can register at Shore, 465 Ringling Blvd. Prizes will be awarded for most trash collected, followed by a barbeque at Lido Beach Concessions.
