Date: January 4, 2013
by: Katie Hendrick | Community Editor
Nearly a century after the erection of New Edzell Castle, the first mansion built on Bird Key, the community is receiving a historical designation, which will be commemorated in a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Bird Key entrance on John Ringling Boulevard.
Bird Key resident and Sarasota Mayor Susan Atwell will speak at the event, along with members of the Bird Key Improvement Association and the Sarasota County Historical Commission Bird Key Yacht Club Commodore Bob Hunter. Following the program, there will be a reception with light refreshments at Bird Key Yacht Club, at 301 Bird Key Drive.
