UPDATE: Construction work to repair the concrete walkway began Tuesday, Dec. 18.
The broken and twisted concrete walkway at Bayfront Park will be repaired starting this week.
Most of the cost of the repair work will be covered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), according to City Manager Tom Barwin in an email update to a downtown resident who notified city officials about the damaged walkway earlier this month.
The concrete was damaged during tropical storm Debbie. Two areas of the sidewalk, which also is used as an exercise pathway through the park, were closed off after the storm.
