During the Dec. 7 City Commission meeting, commissioners were discussing a proposed fee of $250 for weddings in city parks and began to have a little fun with it.
Commissioner Fredd Atkins said the $250 surprised him.
“It doesn’t cost that much to get married,” he said. “And they don’t know what they’re getting into.”
That got a laugh around the City Commission Chambers.
Vice Mayor Kelly Kirschner joked that could be the purpose of the fee.
“Maybe it acts as a deterrent,” he said.
The $250 fee was approved for weddings with parties of more than 10 people.
