The Baltimore Orioles will open its 2010 spring-training season March 3 in Ed Smith Stadium against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The team will play 16 home games in Sarasota. It spent the last 14 spring-training seasons in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets will go on sale Jan. 16.
The city of Sarasota and Sarasota County signed a contract with the Orioles over the summer to bring the team’s spring-training operations here.
The $31.2 million agreement calls for the construction of a new stadium on the Ed Smith Complex site, which is expected to be complete in time for the 2011 spring-training season.
