The installation of a surveillance camera at Five Points Park will begin Tuesday, Dec. 2.
The camera will be placed on a streetlight pole at Main Street and Central Avenue and will tie into the police department’s new wireless surveillance system. Installation is expected to take about a month.
The Downtown Improvement District bought the camera for $13,685 to monitor primarily transient crime in the park.
The police department hopes the city will purchase additional cameras that would be placed in various places throughout the city.
The vendor, Let’s Think Wireless, is also providing two temporary cameras, which will be installed at Main Street and Lemon Avenue.
