The chairman of the Republican Party of Sarasota County has announced his intention to run for state party chairman.
Joe Gruters has begun a two-week tour of all 67 Florida counties to garner support.
“I have a tremendous desire to duplicate the success that we have achieved in Sarasota throughout the state,” he said.
Gruters hopes to ride the momentum from the November election that saw every Republican on the county’s ballot win his race. It was a first for Sarasota County.
The Republican Party chairman and committee members from each county will vote Jan. 15 for the new Republican Party of Florida chairman. The governor and Republican house and senate members also have votes.
So far, Gruters, 33, is the only candidate under age 55.

- Joe Gruters is a winner!
Find out for yourself:
- Joe would be a great GOP leader in Florida. He has high energy and is even handed in all his dealings.
- Joe Gruters is the spark that the RPOF needs badly. Thanks to Joe, our county led the state's effort to reach favorable voters throughout Florida. With his direction we have a precinct organization that delivered for all of the GOP candidates in Sarasota County. He's the real thing.
- My Wife and I have known Joe Gruters for many years here in Sarasota, during which time we have been part of the Sarasota County Republican Executive Committee.
Joe has done an extraordinary job as Chairman of the Sarasota Republican Party, with some of the best results in the State. He is gifted to be able to effectively pull together and work with a wide cross-section of different ideological groups that have similar Republican core values. He does this smoothly and with high personal and professional integrity.
He is very open in considering diverse opinions and uses good practical sense in developing excellent consensus decisions. No one in the County works harder to arrange rallies and to promote Republican values, with the result that it was a Republican sweep in our County last semester. He is quoted with high regard in the local media and is a highly respected County leader. We believe he would excel as Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.

- One of Joe's priorities in his first term as Sarasota Chair has been unity. As results show, he was successful through a very rough primary election and and an even rougher general election.
He's worked closely with young voters and as a result, the party once perceived as that of old white men can now boast of a young grassroots block soon to rival the democrats.
He'll do the same thing for the state.
