Mayor Suzanne Atwell is holding a campaign kickoff event Tuesday to start her run for re-election.
Two at-large City Commission seats are open in the March 12 election. Thus far, six are running for the spots, with Atwell the only incumbent, after Commissioner Terry Turner announced Nov. 15 he would not seek re-election.
Atwell will hold her event from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Libby's Cafe and Bar at 1917 S. Osprey Ave.
“I’ve come to the conclusion that this is exactly what I want to do,” Atwell said in an interview earlier this month. “I am very much looking forward to running again.”
Atwell has been on the commission since April 2009. She previously worked as a mental health counselor and was the director of development for the American Association of Community Colleges in Washington D.C.

- The reason so many aspirant's are running for Suzanne Atwell's seat on the City Commission is her stance on parking. First a proponent of paid meter parking which failed, and then for strict enforcement on St. Armand's Circle by extending the time of parking regulation and finally by ticketing people who could not stay in one of the dreaded boxes.
