- It is sad that our society has so many stereotypes that you project your own prejudices showing ignorance that supports the dumbing down of our intellectual capacity.
MTO is a young artist from Berlin that the Sarasota Chalk Festival brought as part of our new addition “Going Vertical”. It was the artists first time to America and we feel fortunate to have created an atmosphere that celebrated dozens of different cultures with artists from all over the world. The piece represents "Life is fast"...
The event brought dozens of public “Going Vertical” installations located in areas such as Burns Square, South Trail, Longboat Key Club, Palm Avenue Parking Garage, North Trail, and many others to spur positive outcomes and possibly thought provoking? As a thirty-year resident of Sarasota, my interest as a major stakeholder, resident, business owner, and customer of our downtown on a daily basis is to ensure its success.
As world renowned innovator and artist Kurt Wenner states, “What (the Sarasota Chalk Festival) does is take the art form more seriously and fly in people who have different experiences, making it a much more important event. Instead of just having one headline artist and a bunch of local artists, you have people from around the world coming here. For many of the artists it is the first time they have seen each other’s work. So (the festival) not only creating an event for Sarasota, but an event that will actually have an influence on the art form itself, which is what the other events haven’t managed to do”.
- These are hand signals made popular by rap artists and used by West LA gang members. This one can mean West Coast or War. Does having them appear large scale in Sarasota make them main stream? Wonder how the Tube Dude likes his new artwork.
