Local veterans were honored at a ceremony after the Veterans Day Parade, Monday, Nov. 11. The ceremony, which was held at J.D. Hamel Park, commenced with a helicopter fly over and a rendition of the national anthem.
Distinguished veterans and their family members were asked to say a few words to recognize those who served and share their stories.
Pat McLain, widow of John H. McLain, presented the Auxiliary Member of the Year Award to Sharon Ruekle for her work with area veterans.
Rep. Greg Steube was the ceremony’s guest speaker. Steube, who was a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, thanked veterans for their service and discussed the importance of supporting each other.
