This morning, NBC’s The Today Show featured the top-10 real-estate markets in the country, and the show’s real-estate expert put Sarasota at the top of the list.
Barbara Corcoran said Sarasota was No. 1 because its home prices, which dramatically declined in recent years, have seen a sharp rise in the last quarter. The median home price is now $175,800, up 13% this quarter.
“It’s moving fast, and they’re snapping up bargains,” she said.
Aside from the rising prices, Corcoran cited the beaches and culture as reasons to buy in Sarasota.
“It’s a beautiful beach, but on top of that, it’s a sophisticated city,” she said. “It’s an urban city with all the things that sophisticated people like to find there.”
The rest of the top real-estate markets:
2. San Francisco
3. Lansing, Mich.
4. Marietta, Ga.
5. Grand Rapids, Mich.
6. St. Petersburg
7. Naperville, Ill.
8. Trenton, N.J.
9. St. Louis
10. Saginaw, Mich.

- I have to agree with the Today Show. Sarasota is a great place to live. It also has great doctors and hospitals on top of all of the cultural things and great beaches.
