The Out-of-Door Academy dominated Citrus Park Christian Sept. 20, as the Thunder defeated the Eagles 42-0 and ended its three-game losing streak.
The first score of the game came when quarterback David Grain ran for a 15-yard touchdown. This came off of an Eagles' blocked punt by ODA, which gave them great field position. The extra point was no good, but the ODA fans still roared as the Thunder took the lead.
ODA added to its 6-0 lead when Grain connected with wide receiver Jeremy Herrin for a 30-yard touchdown pass to start off the second quarter. The extra point was blocked, but the Thunder still possessed a 12-0 lead
Towards the end of the second quarter kicker Bryan Kirsche made a 30-yard field goal, which put ODA up by fifteen.
“I am impressed with our teams chemistry,” ODA running back Jason Fineberg said during halftime. “Our performance so far tonight is the best it has ever been; and I hope we can keep this going next half. I feel confident that we can pull off this victory and set the tone for more to come.”
Despite its lead, ODA came out fired up in the third quarter. Fineberg ran for a 30-yard touchdown. The extra was good, giving ODA a 22-0 lead.
ODA continued to thrash the Eagles in the second half, as Grain connected with Herrin for a 12-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was blocked, but ODA still held a 28-0 lead.
Midway through the fourth quarter, ODA showed no sign of letting up, as running back Chris Polle scored on a 69-yard touchdown run, giving the Thunder a 35-0 lead.
ODA scored again with 2:23 left in the forth quarter. After a 30-yard gain, Grain fumbled the ball, and it was recovered by wide receiver Joey Runge, who ran it 10 more yards for the touchdown.
“It was good to get a win, we needed the win,” coach Brett Timmons says. “It really fired up the guys. Practice should be good with the guys’ confidence up now knowing they got a win under their belts. We have two weeks off now to prepare for our next game against Bishop Verot. I think we will be ready.”
