Elysian Fields has been around almost as long as the friendship between its owners.
Before Kim Perkins and Lea Semple embarked on a joint venture to open a bookstore in 1991, they were simply searching for their favorite books on alternative healing, wellness, inspiration and spirituality. But there was one problem — they could only seem to locate them in California and Colorado.
“Back then, you didn’t have the Internet access you have right now,” Perkins said. “When we first opened, none of the books we sold (was) on the New York Times Bestseller list. Things have really shifted in our country in the last 19 years.”
Perkins and Semple offer thousands of books from which to choose, hoping to empower customers to achieve their fullest potential. In addition to offering gifts and music, the store also hosts intuitive readers seven days a week who offer a variety of readings such as aura photography, tarot cards, astrology and crystals. Potential clients can learn about Elysian Fields' experts at the shop's website, www.elysianfieldsonline.com.
Elysian Fields will hold an intuitive arts fair starting at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 25. All 30-minute readings will be $35.
“People come in because it just feels good,” Perkins said. “I love our customers, and this is a fabulous place to work. Everybody is open, honest and present.”
