A malfunctioning ice machine in a county building has shut down phone service to the sheriff’s, tax collector, property appraiser, supervisor of elections, clerk of court, Sarasota County Judicial Center, law library and Payne Park tennis center offices.
The ice machine is on the second floor of the Terrace Building at 101 S. Washington Blvd. It began leaking after business hours Thursday, Aug. 27 and continued leaking all night.
The water dripped through the floor and onto the first floor below. The floor below the ice machine happens to be where the building’s phone equipment is kept.
Repairs were expected to be complete by the early afternoon Friday, Aug. 28, but will now take until at least Monday, Aug. 31.
Emergency 911 service is not affected.
