The City Commission has asked the Downtown Improvement District (DID) board to take a position on the installation of parking meters downtown. But before board members decide whether to support installation, they want to hear from the district’s property owners.
The DID is inviting those property owners to its Aug. 11 meeting to provide input.
The city is planning to install parking meters along Main Street and several of its side streets as early as this fall. The project had been considered a done deal for the past year, but last month two commissioners, Kelly Kirschner and Terry Turner, suggested that the installation be put on hold because of the current economic conditions.
The commission is scheduled to make a final decision on parking meters Aug. 17 is seeking the DID’s opinion before that date.
