The Sarasota Family YMCA has named Paul Smith, a YMCA executive from Kansas City, Mo., as the association’s incoming president and chief executive officer.
Smith will begin his position Sept. 1. He has held the position of executive vice president/chief operating officer of the YMCA of Greater Kansas City Missouri since 1998. Smith fills the position left open by Carl Weinrich, who retired June 30 after 34 years.
“We are excited to have a man of Paul’s experience and caliber joining our organization,” said Ed Landis, chairman of the Sarasota Family YMCA board of directors, in a press release. “He has overseen impressive growth in membership and facilities while in Kansas City, which positions us well to continue to serve and expand our services to the Sarasota community.”
Smith has been a YMCA employee for more than 20 years. During his time at Kansas City, Smith has opened 12 new membership centers and has grown revenue by more than $14 million.
“The YMCA mission is the basis by which I direct my professional career and personal endeavors,” Smith said. “I am excited to make an immediate, positive impact on the lives of the members and staff of the Sarasota Family YMCA and the greater Sarasota community.”
