  • This story doesn't pass the smell test.

    In order to work on aircraft as described in the story an individual would have to hold a FAA issued Mechanic's certificate with either an Airframe or Powerplant rating or both. Both ratings are hard to get, require a lot of experience and some very hard written and practical tests. Joel A. Murrill does NOT hold an aviation mechanic certificate.     I hold both, Mr. Murrill holds neither. While he may have held some sort of job at Lockheed he certainly wasn't performing any significant work on any aircraft, aat least work that requires the skills and knowledge of a FAA certificate holder. And he certainly isn't qualified to be taking wings off aircraft nor putting them back on.

    According to Mr. Murrill "“A lot of people there with alcohol problems”.

    Yes, and he is one of those people. A check of the Sarasota Clerk of the Courts online records reveals that Mr. Murrill has a criminal history involving alcohol here in Sarasota County. In 2008, for example, he had at least two run-ins with the law over alcohol related issues.In 2009 the courts had to issue additional judgements against him for failure to pay his fines.     As to Boeing's 787 Dreamliner, it's now more than two years behind schedule but will be at center stage when the curtain lifts on the aerospace industry's Farnborough Airshow (London) next week.

    After years of embarrassing delays, doubts still linger about whether Boeing can get the 787 through its rigorous testing schedule and out the door in time for its first scheduled delivery by year's end.

    Those doubts got new life this week as Boeing warned on Thursday that problems with instrument configuration and inspection work could delay first delivery to early 2011. Boeing stressed, however, that it still intends to get the first 787 to Japan's All Nippon Airways this year.

    I don't know what kind of job offer Mr. Murrill got from Boeing but it would be interesting to know. In any case he will not be acting as a mechanic at Boeing's North Charleston (South Carolina) 787 assembly plant. He do

    I don't know this gentleman, however, I am so very proud of him.
