During the first public hearing of the Citizens Budget Task Force Wednesday, part of the conversation centered on finding new revenue for county government.
Task force member Mary Anne Servian suggested the county crack down on homeowners who claim homestead exemptions on two properties, which is illegal.
She said Broward County has begun a homestead-exemption crackdown and has collected about $7 million in unpaid property taxes.
The County Commission created the Citizens Budget Task Force in May. It is made up of prominent business people who will analyze the county’s budget and give suggestions on how to make it more efficient.
