Poachers have stolen eggs from four Loggerhead sea turtle nests from Casey Key and Venice beaches. The clutches of eggs were all taken in the past week.
Loggerheads are a threatened species and are protected by county, state and federal laws. Possessing sea turtle eggs without a permit can result in up to a year in prison and fines of more than $100,000.
It’s suspected the eggs were stolen for food or to sell on the black market.
